About JH Mt Hope Lady Molly Jo January (Molly):
The dam, Molly, is out of the breeding program of Mr. John C. (“Chris”) Prath IV, of Sumter, SC. Chris has Brittanys in his blood, dating back to when his father bred Brittanys for hunting. It was not uncommon for Chris’s daddy to use empty storefronts in downtown Sumter to house females with their litters. Chris carried on his father’s tradition of Brittanys and expanded his bloodline when he acquired the dogs owned by the gentlemen of the Southern Railroad. This corporate kennel was legendary in SC, and Chris has since produced very desirable hunting companions for today’s sportsmen.
Molly is a great example of the quality that can result from dogs bred for a single purpose, hunting. She is an athletic, active dog. She has completed her Junior Hunter and would have legged out of her Senior Hunter last year but for some personal problems that kept me from campaigning her. She is a biddable dog that hunts with drive and enthusiasm. She is steady to wing and shot, and retrieves to hand. Molly has had 1000s of quail shot over her, and I dare say she has found ever one killed or wounded over her. She is a product of Rick Smith’s training methods, “Silent Command,” as well as finishing work with the talented trainer, Scott Edward of Summerville, SC.
Rick Smith has a phrase that says it all, “You want a dog that will come to ya, go with ya and be still.” Molly is all that and more. She is a devoted companion and an intuitive friend to me – and to my entire family. In terms of conformation, she is a great example of the quality that lies within the standard. Long as she is tall, deep chest, Molly has a naturally short white and orange coat, which I cut even shorter for fieldwork. She epitomizes the “active dog,” always leading with her nose. She is a “brush buster.” There is no thicket too intimidating if it is hiding birds. Molly is a joy.
The selection of Tebow as a stud was not arbitrary. I wanted to breed as close as possible to a living relative if the legendary Nolan’s Last Bullet, 2X NSTRA CH, 2003 Winner Trial of Champions, 3X GRAND NAT’L CH, Nestle-Purina Dog of the Year 2003, 6 X AMERICAN FIELD CHAMPION and Brittany Hall of Fame Inductee. Tebow’s sire and dam were both sired by “Buddy” aka Nolan’s Last Bullet. Buddy died in 2008 so dogs with this close a tie to the “legendary Buddy” are becoming rare.
I am confident in the pairing of Tebow and Molly. I plan to enter puppies in American Brittany Club National All-Age Championships and American Brittany Club Futurities and Field Stakes events as soon as I am able.
